PORTSMOUTH, R.I.—An eight and a half foot Burmese python reported missing Friday from a home on Gormely Avenue in Portsmouth was later found in the home’s basement.
Police said they received a call about the reported missing snake at about 10 a.m.
Police and fire crews conducted a door-to-door search in the Island Park neighborhood.
Crews eventually found the snake a few hours later in the foundation of the home where it was reported missing.
The snake was bagged and taken by state environmental management officials to a Providence reptile store.
It is unclear who owned the python or how the snake was able to get loose.
No charges have been filed in the incident.
