PROVIDENCE—A power outage in the Elmwood section of Providence Sunday afternoon has been traced to balloons.
National Grid spokesman David Graves told NBC10 some mylar balloons somehow got into the substation around 1:15 p.m.
The outage affected 300 customers, including Rhode Island Hospital.
Graves says power flickered at the hospital, which immediately switched over to backup generators.
The hospital called National Grid to see if the problem had cleared up, and Graves said RIH went back on full power an hour later.
Graves says the final customer, an assisted living center, was restored to full power a little after 4 p.m.

I lost power at my house too around the same time. Funny thing is I dont live all that close to the hospital. Right after we lost power we heard sirens.
ILliteracy test?
Smitty must work for Turnto10…
Yeah, I know, lousy story writing. I wonder if Turn to 10 employs high school graduates—or high school dropouts! It should have read that they called National grid—period.
I wonder how the story writers get their job at this site. They must have to pass an ILliteracy test.
wrong, wrong wrong!!! i work at RIH and the power was not back on in one hour. It was 4 hours!
