Boat company rises from ashes

PORTSMOUTH, R.I.—New England Boatworks in Portsmouth is operating at full-strength, only a week after a four-alarm fire ripped through several buildings at the 35-acre facility.

The owners said even their competitors in the marine industry pitched in to help them out after the fire.

“Our fiercest competitors were calling and offering support, space and equipment or whatever we needed,“ MacBain said.

Employees who a week ago watched as the fire tore the facility are thrilled to be back on the job.

“I’m very happy to be back and I’m looking forward to working here for a while,“ said Mike Murgo.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. Owners said they plan to rebuild the three buildings damaged in the blaze.
