City approves party at Brown

PROVIDENCE—The Providence Board of Licenses says it’ll permit a party at Brown University on Friday after being assured the Ivy League school would beef up security following a rowdy and violent party on campus last weekend.

Board chairman Andrew Annaldo warned the university earlier Wednesday that he would withhold approval for the party, but he reconsidered when the city police department said it wasn’t objecting to the event.

Police say the party last weekend attracted more than 500 people and ended with fights. Four nonstudents from Massachusetts were arrested. Police said officers used pepper spray and some partygoers tried to take a campus officer’s gun.

Party sponsor Delta Sigma Theta had no comment.

Alkeryia that is a good idea but (Going to catch heat for this) I’m willing to bet it’s the ones with the parents who buy them the Beamers that are partying more.

Totally agree there, tiredofRI.  When I said aid, I was lumping together such things as scholarships, internships, and work study (if there is such a thing at Brown.)
Money talks.

Wait - the college students at URI are getting threatened with a sticker for having unruly parties but the college students at Brown are allowed to have a party after getting in trouble for having an unruly party?  Oh, I get it now!!

So they’re going to party some more.  I wonder how many will be there that aren’t Brown students.  THAT is where the problem stems from—invited teenagers that have no connection to Brown.  We’d probably hear something like “Well, we really can’t keep them away” from the university—but if they did, I bet there would NOT be half the problems they have now.

LOL Semi as much as I hate to agree I believe they feel that way. I hope they get a slap of reality real soon. If the College heads & Police have any brains at all if a problem arises they will put an end to this. I see a lawsuit in the future.

Tired,
This is capitalism! Money means everything. Rich people can party all they want and disturb whomever they want, they earned it. They also have the right to kick Christopher Columbus right out of the history books. I love this country!

Semi are you kidding? Just because they may have a few bucks does not give them the right to act like a bunch of Disrespectful little brats. There are other people to consider. Time to grow up.

You all just don’t understand. These parties are incredible! You have to try going to one. All the kids are filthy rich, they only serve the best scotch and the cuisine is unreal! I went to one where they were serving caviar that was molded into the shape of a life size Einstein!

I wouldn’t be suprised if there’s double the amount of kids this time around, having this all over the news.

So now they are allowing the party. They are just asking for trouble. Guess it’s going to take a law suit against the police or the school for them to smarten up.
