An man charged with sex crimes is accused of going to extreme measures to try to keep Taunton-area residents from reading about him in the newspaper.

Taunton police said Roland Hill scooped up as many copies of Tuesday’s Taunton Daily Gazette as he could by emptying out a number of newspaper boxes.

Hill and his wife, Mary, were featured in a front page story about their arrests on child abuse charges.

Hill is charged with raping a child.  His wife, Mary, is charged with reckless endangerment of a child.

Police said they caught up with Hill near the paper’s headquarters.  Police said he had 300 to 400 newspapers, but they did not charge him.

Neither Hill nor his wife came to the door when a Gazette reporter tried to do a follow-up story.
