NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I.  – According to The Woonsocket Call, someone is stealing street signs in North Smithfield.  Town officials are asking for the public’s help to stop the culprits.

More than 40 street and stop signs have been reported stolen since the beginning of the year and 12 in just the past two weeks.  The rash of robberies has prompted Town Administrator Paulette D. Hamilton and Police Chief Steven Reynolds to ask for the public’s help.

The thefts do not come without a price, according to Hamilton. “Street signs cost approximately $50 each and $100 for each stop sign.“  Anyone with information should contact the North Smithfield police department.
