PROVIDENCE - Providence police have identified a 32-year-old man accused of wounding three people when he opened fire inside a strip club.

John Quaweay was named Wednesday on a warrant for assault with a dangerous weapon.

An employee at the Sportsman’s Inn told police that he argued with Quaweay early Tuesday morning before four patrons attacked the suspect, forcing him out the club’s front door.

Witnesses said Quaweay returned a short time later with a gun and opened fire, shooting a bartender in the back of the head, grazing the legs of a dancer and inflicting multiple wounds on a patron. All three victims were expected to survive.

The shooter fled from the scene.

A telephone listing for Quaweay could not immediately be found.
