PROVIDENCE—Two North Kingstown police officers who shot and injured a knife-brandishing man won’t face any criminal charges.
A statewide grand jury has cleared the officers of any wrongdoing in the Feb. 8 shooting of Mark Kilcline.
The grand jury determined that the officers believed their lives were in danger when Kilcline came at them with an 8-inch steak knife. The officers fired 10 shots at Kilcline, who was injured but survived.
The grand jury probe concluded Wednesday.
The police had come to the home, where Kilcline rented a room, after a woman called to report that Kilcline had injured himself earlier in the day and should be checked on.
Attorney General Patrick Lynch called Kilcline’s injury tragic, but he said the officers reacted reasonably and professionally.
