Police identify girl struck by car

PROVIDENCE—Providence police late Monday identified the victim in a hit-and-run case as a 12-year-old girl.

Investigators did not release her name because of her age.

Police charged Juan Aquirre, 67, of North Providence, with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury.  Aquirre is accused of striking the girl Sunday night at the corner of Manton Avenue and Unit Street.

Aquirre is set to be arraigned Tuesday.

The girl was in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital.
