PROVIDENCE—Providence police are investigating an early-morning accident that killed a Johnston man.

Providence Police tell NBC 10 News the call came in at 2:25 a.m., Sunday for a single-car accident at the 1200 block of North Main Street.

They say the car was coming from Pawtucket on North Main St. when it hit a utility pole.

Four people were in the car at the time of the accident. 

Police say Joseph Carpentieri, 20, of Johnston was driving and was prounouced dead at the scene.

One passenger, 19,  of North Providence, was in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital with head trauma. The other two passengers suffered broken legs and other injuries.

Police say alcohol, speed and weather may all be factors contributing to the accident.

this is so sad! Speed does kill as I tell my 20, 18 and 16 year old children all the time…My heart goes out to this family!

When are these kids going to realize that SPEED KILLS.  Every weekend you hear of someone.  So sad.  My heart goes out to all the families.

it’s a sad reality…some folks, especially young ones, never think this will happen to them. drinking and driving just don’t mix. really, what’s so difficult to understand? my heartfelt condolences to all involved.

how very sad…  a tragedy for this family…  as i have written previously, we all need to be careful driving…  this should never have happened…  my thoughts and prayers are with the families of these victims…

MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYS GO OUT TO THE FAMILY OF THIS YOUNG MAN. THIS IS VERY SAD NEWS JOSEPH WAS EXPECTING HIS FIRST CHILD IN FEBRUARY. I HOPE THE REST OF THE PEOPLE IN THE ACCIDENT RECOVER QUICKLY.
