Police arrest suspect in Fairhaven kidnapping

Fairhaven police on Monday arrested a man accused of kidnapping a woman in the parking lot of a Stop & Shop on Huttleston Avenue.

Police arrested Eugene Fernandes, 45, of Wareham was arrested without incident.

Investigators said Fernandes followed the 43-year-old woman to her car, jumped into the passenger’s seat, and forced her to drive him to places in New Bedford on Oct. 15.

She was able to escape and call for help.
