ACUSHNET, Mass.—Residents on the SouthCoast of Massachusetts are reminded that bow hunting season has begun.

An Acushnet family said someone shot and killed their cat, named Cali.

“That little cat just didn’t deserve that. He was a beautiful, beautiful cat,“ Carol Sylvia said.

A family member said Cali had been missing for a day when they found him in the driveway, impaled by a razor-tip arrow. They believe hunters in the area shot it, using a bow.

“My daughter got up in the morning. She works for the Humane Society. She came out to feed her kitten and found the cat ... with an arrow protruding out of its body by about 2 feet. The cat had worked its way from being struck in the woods,“ Sylvia said.

Sylvia said that she believes Cali was shot deliberately. The cat died after emergency surgery.

The family said it has heard from hunters who are infuriated about Cali’s death.

“This is just a really bad person. It doesn’t mean all hunters are, but I’ve also been around enough hunters to know when they take aim, they mean it. So, this was no joke,“ Sylvia said.

Officials have said in the past that pet owners who live near wooded areas should be vigilant if they let their animals outdoors.

Hunting season in Massachusetts ends Nov. 21.

I also have been bow hunting, there is no way you can accidently shoot a cat like that, this was done on purpose, if this wasnt an accident which it most likely wasnt, guranteed this same person will do it again. People like this need to face stiff jail sentences, not just slaps on the wrist or small jail time. sick, absolutley sick.

yeah, this was no accident…this is definitely an intentional act. I’d be willing to bet a million bucks that this was a case of some young teenagers with nothing better to do with their time than to shoot at poor innocent cats! Sorry to say…

I agree, there is no way someone could mistake a cat for a deer. This is a deliberate act of animal cruelty and is a reason why hunting in residential areas should not be allowed.

I am an avid hunter and collector of firearms and there is no way you can mistake a cat for a deer. This was unfortunately intentional. What a scumbag.

I doubt very much that a hunter shot that cat—if that is the cat in the picture.  Irresponsible idiots did it.  I hope someone takes a shot at them.

Although i have not been Hunting for many years. The first saftey rule for taking a shot wheather by gun or bow is: ALWAY KNOW what is behind your target. I have many atime let animals go, because i could not identify wat was behind them. In one incident i could here children playing nearby. No trophy Buck is worth a human life. And Stupid Hunters give the rest of us a bad rep

I keep reading this article over and over to see if I missed some details because it seems vague.  As a hunter I hope that this was a complete mistake or missed shot. I have been in the woods since I was 6 years ( 35 ) now and I personally do not know anyone who hunts who would deliberately shot at a house pet.  If this was the case, this person is completely disrespectful and does not belong in the woods. I am not here to argue the details nor hunting in general. I just wanted to voice that I’m sorry for the your loss.
