PROVIDENCE—A judge has ordered Providence College to release information related to the death of a student who fell off the roof of a four-story dormitory seven years ago.

A Superior Court judge issued a 106-page ruling ordering release of the information and accusing high-ranking college officials of engaging in a pattern of evasion and obstruction.

The information was sought by John E. Langley Jr., of Walpole, Mass., who filed a wrongful death suit against the school following the death of his son, John D. Langley, in 2002.

The family accuses the school of failing to take safety precautions.

A lawyer for the college said in an e-mail to The Providence Journal that school officials are disappointed with the ruling and that they plan to appeal to the state Supreme Court.
