CHARLESTOWN, R.I.—Police have released the name of a man killed in a single-car crash on Route 1 in Charlestown.

Authorities said Curtis Rathbone, 52, of Charlestown, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 9 p.m. Sunday.

Police said Rathbone was driving south when his Jeep Cherokee crossed the median into the northbound lane and struck a guard rail. Rathbone was partially ejected when his vehicle flipped on its side.

He was alone in the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt.

Police said they do not believe speed or alcohol was a factor.

An autopsy will be done to determine whether Rathbone had a medical issue.
