NTSB issues report on RI plane crash

PROVIDENCE—Federal investigators said a plane crash in Middletown last July that resulted in three deaths was probably caused by a flight instructor’s failure to order another attempt during a touch-and-go landing.

The National Transportation Safety Board report said the instructor took “inadequate remedial action” when the student pilot came in too high. The plane struck trees when it attempted to pull out.

The report says the instructor, 63-year-old Charles Thompson, may have been impaired by two prescribed arthritis medications he was taking.

The investigation found no mechanical problems with the Piper PA-28.

Thompson and a passenger, Pamela Ulich Lancaster, died instantly. The student pilot, Keith Ulich, died of his injuries more than two months later.

Having read the above news report in conjunction with the NTSB report, I ask the following questions:
If the student pilot was flying the plane, wouldn’t he have been sat in the left hand seat? there are no flight instruments on the right hand side of a PA28.
Where in the report does it mention that the student was flying the plane?
Has the NTSB report been misquoted?
