NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I.—North Smithfield police are asking for help to catch whoever has been swiping signs around town.
Police said 40 street and stop signs have been reported stolen since the beginning of the year and 12 in the past two weeks.
Officials estimate the number of signs stolen so far will cost the town more than $2,000.
Police said the thefts are also a safety concern because some of the stop signs were taken from busy intersections.
