No full shutdowns expected on I-95 in Providence

PROVIDENCE—Interstate 95 will not be shut down in Providence since good weather has sped along demolition work that would have required the highway’s closure.

Department of Transportation spokesman Charles St. Martin said Monday crews have been able to work faster than expected dismantling old bridges that once connected Interstates 95 and 195.

Still, only one of the three lanes on Interstate 95 north will be open overnight in Providence. The lane closures will last through Thursday.

As a result, transportation officials are urging motorists to use Interstate 295 as a detour.
