PROVIDENCE—Rhode Island transportation officials are warning of likely traffic delays later this month when they open the next phase of the Interstate 195 highway relocation project.

The new traffic pattern on I-195 west will be in place starting June 18 and will affect drivers approaching Providence.

The DOT said Thursday that the split to Interstate 95 will occur earlier than before, just after the Gano Street exit.

Drivers heading south will cross the Providence River Bridge and use the new Iway to connect to I-95 South.

Drivers heading for Interstate 95 north will continue using the old Interstate 195.

The DOT said drivers should move into the correct lanes before they cross the Washington Bridge.

The change is the third of four planned highway segments of the $610 million Iway project. The final segment is scheduled to open later this year.

610 Million dollars!!!! WTF No wonder there is a budget crisis.  Stop closing the schools in RI and stop this ridiculous overspending on road work!
