BARRINGTON, R.I.—The new Barrington River Bridge will soon open in stages for the evening commute.
Rhode Island transportation officials plan to divert westbound traffic onto the 418-foot span starting Wednesday.
Once the bridge is open for westbound traffic, construction crews can finish work on the eastbound lanes, which should be open around Labor Day.
Additional construction work is expected on the new bridge through the fall.

I heard on the noon news that construction on this bridge started in the late 90’s. Could that be possible, and if so what took so looooong???????
