CRANSTON, R.I.—NBC 10 Sports Director Frank Carpano was inducted Thursday night into the prestigious Silver Circle of the Boston/New England Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Carpano, a Rhode Island sports television pioneer, was honored for his more than 28 years in the industry during a gala celebration at the Yawkey Theater in Brighton, Mass.

Silver Circle members are honored for making an enduring contribution to the vitality of the television industry. Established in 1993, the Silver Circle honors television professionals who have performed distinguished service within the industry for more than 25 years. Previous NBC 10 inductees include John Ghiorse, Patrice Wood, Frank Coletta, Doug White and Art Lake.

Frank Carpano joined NBC 10 in 1980. He has been sports director and primary sports anchor since 1984. During that time, Frank has covered numerous Super Bowls, World Series and Olympics.  Frank won a New England Emmy Award for his series called “Getting Frank in Shape,“ which chronicled Frank’s preparation for the Olympic torch run.

“We congratulate Frank on his prestigious Silver Circle Award. NBC 10 Sports wouldn’t be the same without Frank’s passion, drive and enthusiasm in sports reporting,“ said Betty-Jo Cugini, vice president of NBC 10 News.

In addition to reporting nightly on NBC 10 News at 6 and 11, Frank hosts “First and 10” during the football season and “The Providence College Coach’s Show” during the college basketball season.  Frank is currently the host and executive producer of “Varsity Life,“ a 30-minute weekly show on high school student athletes. That show, co-produced by NBC 10 and Cox Sports, airs on Cox Sports Channel 3 each Monday night at 7:30 and can also be seen on turnto10.com.

For many years, Frank has handled announcing duties at championship boxing matches in Rhode Island and Atlantic City and has been public address announcer for Providence College men’s basketball games.

“Frank is an original in the Southern New England television sports industry and an integral part of the NBC 10 News Team.  We are pleased that Frank is receiving this well-deserved honor,“ said Lisa Churchville, president and general manager of NBC 10.
