PROVIDENCE—A natural gas leak Friday afternoon forced the evacuation of some homes in Providence.

According to David Graves, a National Grid spokesman, the utility received a call at about 4:45 p.m. for reports of a gas leak at a house at 32 Judith St.

Graves said the house appeared to be vacant. No injuries were reported.

The fire department had ordered the evacuation of surrounding homes as a precaution, but Graves said people have since been allowed back into their houses after crews located the source of the leak.
