Mystic is home to new turtles
MYSTIC, Conn.—Touche’ – Mystic Aquarium is now home to four sea turtles.
For the first time in the past three years, Mystic is housing sea turtles, including Charlotte, a juvenile green sea turtle and three loggerhead hatchlings.
All seven species of sea turtles are either endangered or threatened and the turtles at Mystic will allow researchers the opportunity to educate the public about the issues surrounding sea turtles.
Charlotte was found in Georgia, with her shell covered in barnacles. It is believed she was struck by a boat’s propeller.
It is likely that she will not ever be released back into the wild due to her injuries, but wildlife rehabbers at Mystic will work toward that goal.
The loggerheads were found in North Carolina and will be released there when they are old enough and strong enough.
