Michael Derderian allowed to travel out of state
Published: October 20, 2009
Michael Derderian, a co-owner of The Station nightclub in West Warwick, who pleaded no contest in the deaths of 100 people killed in a fire there in 2003, will be able to travel out of state for a week, The Providence Journal reported.
A Superior Court judge granted the travel request on Tuesday.
The trip is scheduled for sometime in January. Neither Derderian nor his lawyer said where Derderian would be going, according to the newspaper.
Derderian was released from prison in June after serving two years and three months of a four-year sentence. He began serving time in 2006, after he and his brother, Jeffrey, each pleaded no contest to 100 counts of involuntary manslaughter.
Jeffrey Derderian did not have to serve prison time. He was sentenced to community service.

It shouldn’t be anyones business this man is traveling out of state. Where’s the real news? Just a stir in the old pot. Many are responsible, not just the two brothers and in the end it’s the Lord who has the final say.
Trebron, yes, you do need a permit—and half the time that is the extent of the municipalities involvement. That half the time there are NO inspections.
The fact remains that neither the inspectors nor the fire marshalls booked the entertainment and neither of them had any idea of the pyrotecnics involved. Are they still to blame because of that? NO.
They did an inspection of the club and approved the soundproofing and required the owners fix the exit situation—which is what they were supposed to do. Are they to blame because they didn’t finish that job? Yes.
The owners/operators booked the entertainment and were actually in charge—their employees who allowed the band to set up their ‘fireworks’ the way they did, and so on ARE JUST AS MUCH TO BLAME. As I said, take off your blinders. There is plenty of blame to spread around, from the state and city inspectors right down to the Derderians and their employees.

Semi Arffi—The red schmucks or the yankems notwithstanding, if you can’t see the comparison between what I stated and the niteclub situation, you better take off your blinders as well. YOUR comparison between the situation and taking your car to a garage is stretched—the inspectors and fire marshalls did not set up and fire off the pyrotecnics—and that is what YOUR comparison would refer to them doing.
As usual, your comments are way out in left field.
___________
Brain Damage—as usual, your comment exemplifies your ‘brain damage’.
Is that all you got from that? The fire inspectors knew, and didn’t bother reinspecting it. The owner also failed, but as owners of the business, the Derderian’s were equally responsible for the workings of that club. Don’t think for a minute that they didn’t know of the deficiencies. If they claim that they didn’t they should have. Ignorance is no excuse.
The word blame, to me, minimizes this whole situation. Responsibility is really what we are talking about here.
so its the owners fault for intentionaly never fixing the door and not calling for another inspection .

Political and Legal Foundations of Fire Protection: The Station had a door that swung inward near the platform (stage) area of the building. A fire safety inspection dated 10 Nov 2001 commented that the exit door near the platform (stage) area cannot swing inward. The building owner was instructed to call when ready for re‐inspection. The re‐inspection signature block was blank when the inspection form was reviewed as part of the fire investigation.
This excerpt was taken from a paper written by Charles D. McGrevy, Univ. of Ohio Applied Science Dept. I think that it speaks for itself. David Kane is pursuing the case against the negligence of the fire inspectors who didn’t follow up on this, I hope he is successful.
Exactly Trebron. And that pretty much sums up how this whole little crooked state works.
The only reason that the Fire Marshall and the INSPECTOR didn’t go to jail is because they were appointed officials not elected. If they were elected beleave me they would be in jail as we speak.
It’s not the owners fault. They were the victims of a witch hunt.
its the owners fault , not The fire marshall and the inspector. the inspectors dont know that they are gonna have pyrotechnics in the building that day . they just inspect teh building . they didnlt say o by the way no pyrotechnics in here understood . its not there job , its th owners fault for letting pyrotechnics in that day ,THATS WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE , the pyrotechnics , and dont give me the bull that the owners didn’t know . i’m sure teh fierworks didnlt come in in there pockets . i’m sure the owner knew and teh box was obvious . plus that all has to be setup prior to the show . aso nobody at all in the building didnlt see the setup on stage , bouncers, owners, bartenders anybody . nope aint happeing someone that works or owns the busoness had to see them before they went off . its not a box of cigareetes its pretty abvious thing when its on stage, its sad but the inspector comes in says everything is iok have a good day . then from teh back door here comes fireworks that nobody knows about. teh pyrotechnics satrted the fire , not the fact it didn’t have exstingushers and stuff that doesn’t come into play .teh fact that the building was up to code has nothing to do with soemone bringing fireworks into a building teh inspectors left they dont know whats gonna happen after that
OJ SIMPSON got away with killing 2 people. The fire marshall and inspector got away with killing 100.
