PROVIDENCE - Bones found in a wooded area of West Greenwich over the weekend are believed to be those of a man missing since 2006.

The Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s office said Wednesday it tentatively identified skeletal remains as those of 47-year-old Gerald Cox. The office is still working with police on a final confirmation.

The remains were found on Saturday by hikers in the Big River Management area.

Cox’s truck was found abandoned in 2006 on a road that runs through the park.

Gerry was family. We spent 2 weeks searching the area and we were prevented from searching in the area where he was found. We were told that if we went into that area we would be arrested. Months I wrote emails to every news station and paper that I could find asking for help to find him. Not once was an email ever answered. Now that he has been found everyone is writing about him….
