Bills Mount In Child's Death
A mother talks about the heartache following her son's death, and now the mounting medical bills she is afraid she cannot pay.
Evan Tellier
CUMBERLAND, R.I.—A tragic accident claimed the life of a 6-year-old boy a little more than a month ago.
But for the child’s mother, Ashley Tellier, the devastation didn’t end with her son’s death. She now faces mounting medical bills. Dan Jaehnig talks with the family about the tragedy.
There will be a fundraising event for Evan Tellier on Sunday, Ocotober 4, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Johnston Memorial Park.

Ashley, I’m so sorry for the loss of your son. I cannot even imagine what you must be going through. you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
My most heartfelt sympathies go out to Evan’s family, and I think that it is deplorable that the mother needed to post on here because she felt she needed to defend her actions. To those of you who posted nasty things, and those of you who are thinking of doing so, first think of this: treat others as you would want to be treated.
My prayers are with deepest sorrow for your loss of your son.
Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me will live even though they die;and those who live and believe in me will never die.Do you believe this?
You must turn anything that happens in your life over to God and no matter what believe and it will be taken care of, now don’t worry about it you have done all you could for your son and you know that in your heart and so does God.
God bless you
God bless America

First, I want to thank 10 for doing such a decent job with this heartbreaking story. Second, I want to thank “ Nick Mom’s “ for wisely pointing out a few things. I would also like to add that the wonderful people who have put together this fundraiser have children of their own ... it is a parent’s worse fear; the death of your child. What wasn’t mentioned in this interview was that 2 and 1/2 days after the accident my daughter and her ex donated Evan’s organs.
Can you imagine? The courage, strength of a parents’ heart to deal with a child’s death so quickly and immediately, Immediately, think of others in need. I was blown away by love and pride for my daughter. In that moment, I felt I’d done something correct as a parent, but nothing will come even close to what she has done. Love for her first born turned into love for humanity.
Maybe you can see this fundraiser as humanity giving back the only way it can ..... my grandson is gone. Everyday we think this fact is impossible; our minds can’t yet accept it. Peace & Joy, Laurie
( I’ve just noticed that my daughter has spoken out, below. Please forgive the rant; someone must have told her this was online. Thank you for thoughtful comments. I hope none of you readers ever have to experience some things that have been said. )
Nick’s mom—the negative comments were more than likely from some uncaring people who shouldn’t be allowed to post. Our hearts go out to you and Brayden. May God watch over you and give you the strength to cope with your loss.
this blog came to my attention from my sister and best friend’s husband who both informed me that there was a question about where the monies were being sent to, i would like to assure people that i have had nothing to do with the fundraiser i was told about the event 2 weeks ago when my sister let it slip while visiting. I wanted nothing to do with this, and my friends wanted me to have nothing to do with this event they were trying to do something nice to help relieve some stress from my life.At this point the sole and only focus i have had has been my other son Evan’s little brother Brayden who up until the nite before the accident had NEVER been seperated from his brother Evan, even for one night. And the one time Evan sleep out without his brother, Evan NEVER came home. for everyone out there trying to say im trying to make a profit from my own sons death(jerks) has never tried to explain to their three year old that their brother who has been his only constant in his life (MY ex husband and i seperated and divorced shortly after brayden was born)left one nite and is not EVER going to come home. Just felt like this needed to be said because it was not expressed in the interview and i did not think people would have this nasty of a reaction to what was going on!! But i want to take a moment and say thank you all from the bottom of my heart, there are no words for those of you how have called, emailed, and gone out of your way to make sure that brayden and i did not need anything and taken such good care of us. thank you so very much for without all of you we would not have made it without you. i am forever grateful and always will be.
For those who are concerned about the funds associated, they have been allocated into a TRUST FUND for Evan, in the name of Evan exclusively; the IRS forms have been filled out and they can only be used to pay for these medical bills.
For the cynics, yes, the mother has begun to receive bills (from the funeral home). For those that know what health insurance is about, bills are not generated for 60 days after death.
Once again, this fundraiser IS NOT ABOUT INSURANCE or their lack to pay. This fundraiser has been organized by a group of family and friends ONLY for the soul purpose to be a good Samaritan.
Mom had no idea of any of this until I politely asked her to do the interview, which was hard enough for her.
Please keep your cynical comments to yourself. This is not about you or democracy or lack of healthcare. Please show respect to Mom and the family that is trying to hold it together. Thanks.
This is such a horrible tragedy, my thoughts and prayer go out to this little boy’s mother and family. Unfortunately, there are some scumbags out there who try and profit off of a childs death. However, I cannot find any reason as to why anyone has any reason to think that this mother is one of those scumbags. I think people need to give her the benefit of the doubt not every grieving mother is a greedy enough to try and profit off their childs death. Unfortunately, she lost her son and now has to pay for bills she cannot afford and she is not the only person out there who has or is going through this.
You people really are pathetic. I suggest that if you don’t have anything nice to say, keep your trap shut. If you listen to what Dan said, the insurance company has not produced a bill yet. How about the funeral costs? This article is NOT about going after the insurance company! Not the time or the place. It is about coming together as a community and showing support to a family that just lost a child. That is all nothing else!
This mother lost her son. Regardless of the circumstances, it isn’t appropriate to comment about the funds she is likely to get to help her pay the bills.
