Man struck, killed while clearing leaves

LYNN, Mass. - A Lynn man clearing leaves in his front yard was killed when an out of control SUV crashed on his lawn.

Police Lt. William Sharpe says 60-year-old William Laurino was pronounced dead at the scene of Thursday’s accident on Lynnfield Street.

Police say 41-year-old Shawn Newhall, the driver of the sport utility vehicle, suffered critical injuries and was flown to a Boston-area hospital. A 5-year-old boy in the vehicle was taken to Salem Hospital with serious injuries. Both were listed in fair condition on Thursday night.

Police were still investigating and no charges had been filed.

A neighbor, Carl Phillips, tells the Lynn Item that there are many accidents on the street.
