Mass. commuter rail to get WiFi

BOSTON—Wireless Internet access will soon be available on every coach traveling on the MBTA’s commuter rail lines.
On Friday, Lt. Gov. Tim Murray announced that the agency’s board approved a $1.4 million plan to install WiFi on the 258 coaches.
Free wireless Internet access has already been available on the Worcester/Framingham line to Boston’s South Station since January as part of a pilot program.
Installation of the wireless equipment will start in December and should be done by late spring. Officials say that after the initial $1.4 million is paid, it will cost $300,000 annually to maintain.
