Mass. lawmakers hear testimony on casino bills

BOSTON—Massachusetts lawmakers are weighing testimony rom the public on a range of gambling bills, from measures that would license casinos to proposals to allow slot machines at the state’s racetracks.

Gov. Deval Patrick tried but failed last year to win approval of three resort-style casinos. His principal opponent, former House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi, has since resigned and new Speaker Robert
DeLeo backs expanded gaming.

The same is true of Senate President Therese Murray.

The question now is whether to push toward the resorts, add slot machines at racetracks or do some combination.

Among those pushing for casinos at Thursday’s hearing were hundreds of construction workers who say expanding gaming could create 20,000 jobs. Opponents warn about the social costs of gambling, such as debt and divorce.

Well, if that is the case, if it will give the community 20,000 jobs, then they should expand gaming. But if you weigh the negative of expanding, the divorce and debt, then it is better not to expand at all. If you’re looking to make some extra money on the side, or something to do in the meantime, you could try freelance writing. Freelance writing is especially popular in the age of the internet, as a competent writer, if they find the right websites, can write articles and make some decent green from the enterprise. You DO have to know what you’re doing – as most article sites taking submissions won’t pay you, or at least much, if you can’t read or write well. If the condition is such that the verisimilitude of a persons vocabulary is comprised, whether through ignorance or through incompetence, the likelihood of getting extra cash from freelance writing is slim.
