FAIRHAVEN, Mass.—The lawyer for a Fairhaven teen charged in the fatal stabbing of his father says it was a clear case of self-defense.

Eighteen-year-old Kalibe Correia was arraigned on manslaughter and other charges Monday in New Bedford District Court. He was ordered held pending a bail hearing on Sept. 3.

Police said Correia stabbed his father, 39-year-old Keith Correia, last Friday after intervening in a heated argument between his parents. The younger man’s face was slashed during the confrontation.

Kalibe Correia’s attorney, Colleen Tynan, said his client is devastated by what happened.

Court records show a history of domestic violence in the family.

The teen’s uncle, Kenneth Correia, told the Standard-Times his nephew loved his father and like his dad, wanted to be a fisherman.

i am a friend of kaleb’s and everytime i have been to his house his parents have fought, his house was always crazy. the mother and dad would always fight there has been times when kaleb’s mom would be drunk and flip out on everyone and threaten to fight everyone in the house, and there was a time when i was there when kaleb’s dad hit his mom and the mom whipped an ash trey at the dad. and the mom would come down stairs and just cry. his house was always crazy and kaleb loved his dad no matter what he did, i am most possitive kaleb didnt kill him just out of the blue. he loved his insane family and they loved him. kaleb is a good kid. PLEASE clear his name. his friends and fanily know his life style and for hhim to be judged or charged with killing his dad is turture it’s bad enough he has to live with the guilt for the rest of his life, show him some mercey.

Sad Sad situation this poor kid is in!! I’m sure he will not end up being convicted considering the facts…He walked into a heated aruguement between his parents and there was a history of domestic violence?? Hmmm…he was probably protecting his mother from getting the ever living crap beat out of her and had no choice but to do what he did!!! In my opinion! I’m sure he didn’t intend to “kill” his dad that day!!!
