So if its not the fault of the people who moved into “The South Side” after the so called whites (Irish) moved out…who do we blame? You still have not answered my question.I guess it must be George Bush’s fault.

The new minorities are the new groups of people coming into this country legally or illegally and guess what they could even be from England….doesn’t mean they have to be Spanish or Vietnamese.

Let’s get this straight.  I don’t care who was here before or what happened when the Irish or whatever moved out.  What I’m saying is that I’m tired of people making generalizations where minorities (i.e. Spanish, Black anything non-white) are concerned.  There are a lot of us who care about our communities.  If properties went down after, and I’m gonna say it, White people moved out, it’s not fair to entirely fault the people who came to live there.  And Freak1, or whoever you are, who the heck are the new minorities?  The Spanish, Vietnamese? That’s an insult to all of us minorities (old and new) who actually take pride in our neighborhoods, respect our neighbors and teach our kids to do the same!  Take a drive sometime in South Side—there are folks here who have pride in where they live.  It’s not just a surburban thing.

I only ask you this because you said you have lived there your whole life.

Neetsie you may not know this but South Providence was inhabited solely by the Irish when this city was younger. Most of the homes in South Providence were big and beautiful at one time. I understand that age has something to do with the houses looking the way they do but please tell me what happened to South Providence when the Irish moved out.

ot2hvfn, sorry but some of these bloggers make it sound as if the minorities are at fault for the state of their communities.  Granted, there are those who give less than a crap about where they live and their kids can be the biggest waste of space available, but not all minorities are like this.  I’ve lived in South Providence all my life and in the neighborhood where I live everyone keeps their property clean, houses nice and no junk cars in the yards.  And yes, the folks here ALL teach their kids to respect the adults, including the police who are sometimes really rude to them for no reason at all.  I agree with you-some of these young ones need to learn respect.

Ot2hvfun:  Keep doing what your doing and you will hear it.  I did the same thing from day 1…my kids are 14 and 9 and are very respectful.  I have gotten the looks in stores…but I don’t give a shiznit…I rather them look at me for discipling my kids than the looks I give mothers who let their kids take a hissy fit on the floor in a store and kick and slap their mothers.  THAT WOULD BE THE FRIGGEN DAY!  Keep up the good work… grin

I will be the first to admit that I am as prejudice as they come. I hate scumbags with their hands out and people who have no respect for their neighbors or neighborhoods. News flash NEETSIE they can be white people also that do these things I HATE THEM ALL. So race has nothing to do with this.

I am 100% Irish and I mentioned Italians in this neighborhood….don’t forget Irish and Italians were once minorities and considered scum and forced to live in the worst areas…but what we did as a group of people was build theses areas up and make them beautiful only for the new minorities to ruin them forever.

J9.. yes you teach them respect.. but while doing so.. ever get the evil eye in public.. We have a 3 kids.. OLDEST is 2 1/2.. now take them to a store and see how people look when you raise your voice.. demand respect or punish your child in an tantrum.. I am sorry.. I will not allow my kids to kick.. scream and take a fit over nothing.. they know it.. and when it happens I get to the fit and stop it.. it doesnt stop there.. they have to learn as they grow how thier fit affected the other kids.. the other people in the store.. and so on.. I want to hear that.. too.. I want to hear what nice respectable children I have..

Ot2hvfun:  Your exactly right!!! That is what my husband and I instill in our 2 children daily…RESPECT, RESPECT, RESPECT!  I guess we’re doing a good job cause we get lots of compliments on their behavior from all their friends parents.  That is key!  The children are our future…Yikes!

Neet… I think maybe these posts are coming off wrong. Correct me if I am wrong. what they are saying is how the neighborhood used to be nice. It doesnt matter who lived there.. They had pride.. They came to the country and worked for what they have.. There was no or little social systems that helped them out.. Put them in section 8.. They worked.. Familes lived togehter. Did large sunday dinners. NOW.. no such thing.. no more family ties or respect for the neighbors.. I think we need to go back to what we were.. A city / state.. a melting pot of all.. that had pride.. Obbey the law or get out. I guess it goes back to respect in many ways. It all starts with children not respecting thier parents.. then those children grow and dont respect thier neighbors.. their police.. Teach our children a little respect and pride.. Thats the only way of changing things
