A Warwick man accused of scamming people was sentenced Thursday to serve five years in prison.
The Providence Journal reported that Charles Pruenca pleaded no contest to six counts of obtaining money under false pretenses and one count of attempting to obtain money under false pretenses. The state dropped nine charges in two different cases as part of a plea agreement.
Pruenca was accused of posing as a scout for the Boston Red Sox, a real estate investor and a cancer survivor to scam thousands of dollars.
Pruenca must also pay about $682,000 to his victims.
