Man pleads to manslaughter in wife’s death

BARNSTABLE, Mass.—A 72-year-old Bourne man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter the day he was to go on trial for stabbing his wife to death in 2006.
William Romero pleaded guilty on Tuesday to killing his wife, Elaine, by stabbing her 45 times in October 2006. Prosecutors said she was found naked and dead on a neighbor’s porch with a trail of blood leading back to her home.
Romero was initially charged with murder. He’ll be given a psychiatric evaluation before he’s sentenced on the manslaughter plea.
In court Tuesday, Romero admitted he stabbed his wife, but said he was defending himself.
Judge Richard Connon told Romero that self-defense with excessive force is still manslaughter.

exeter-gal you are right on! Seems to me more like offense than self-defense. Couldn’t he just have divorced her and moved on…..naaaaa “I think I’ll stab her 45 times instead”. Dump him in a cell and let him cry like a baby.
would have to agree with the judge, in this case. stabbing a person 45 times in “self-defense” is a little over done, to say the least. this man obviously had issues…WOW!
