ORLEANS , Mass.—A Dennis man was arraigned Tuesday on motor vehicle homicide and other charges following a fatal crash that killed his 19-year-old friend.

An Orleans District Court judge ordered a bruised Eric St. Cyr be held on $5,000 cash bail as he awaits trial on charges stemming from the Sunday night crash that killed Steven Saling, also of Dennis.

The Cape Cod Times reported that St. Cyr, 23, told police he had been drinking before crashing his minivan into a utility poll on Route 28 in Harwich, killing the front-seat passenger.

The newspaper reported that his attorney, Herbert Lach Jr., told the judge St. Cyr is “very remorseful, sorry, distraught” over Saling’s death.

Lach did not immediately return an Associated Press message left after business hours Tuesday.
