BRENTWOOD, N.H.—A Rhode Island man charged with hiding the gun used to kill a New Hampshire carpenter in 2007 admits he took it the night of the murder to keep it away from police.

Michael Linaris, 32, of Providence, has agreed to plead guilty to a charge of falsifying physical evidence at a Sept. 8 hearing.

The Eagle Tribune reports police began tracking how the gun was obtained and then taken out of state after they rounded up five suspects involved in the botched robbery that led to Jason Violette’s murder.

One of them, Christopher Gagne pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, but has not been sentenced.
