PROVIDENCE—Phones are back up at the Rhode Island State Police, after a malfunction forced some 911 calls to be rerouted.

The glitch Wednesday was hampering police phone numbers beginning with the 444 exchange.

The problem did not affect incoming 911 calls, but 911 dispatchers had to change the way they routed the calls to the barracks that sends out troopers.

Yeah, that new Verizon commercial is great! The one where there’s a bunch of cops running around the city with their guns drawn looking for a signal.
