It was a hot, humid day in August of 1956 when dad brought home a 21”, black-and-white television. It was the first we ever had and it was an Emerson. I’ll never forget it! After wrestling with a set of rabbit ears, dad fired up the set and the first thing we saw was Art Lake! Unforgettable! May he rest in peace.

Art, you have been, and will continue to be missed by all of us. During the 70’s and 80’s I had the opportunity to be the “permanent” weekend “camera guy” at WJAR. For more than 15 years I worked the evening news programs. I was privileged to spend hundreds of hours working on the “other” side of the camera that Art would be speaking to you through. Between the rush of the early and late newscast I often had some time to meet with Art in the “weather office”. The one thing that I will always remember about him was how smart he was. Art’s field of knowledge was tremendous…. Art… when is the best time to plant blueberry bushes, prune the plum tree…. fertilize the grass. “ What do you think about Yastrzemski” Art would take the time ( even with the new kid) to share his knowledge and wisdom. As the years went on Art would share his travel adventures to the “other side of the Pond” with me and be just as interested in my knowledge of his home electrical wiring ( my current profession). On the other side of that camera lens I DID realize that I was working with a broadcast legend, but at 6:30 PM on any Saturday or Sunday, when the “on air” red light went off… I would like to think of him as a legend…. who was my friend.
To the Lake family and the Channel 10 family,
My sympathy at the passing of Art Lake. I grew up in Waterford CT but seldom saw Ch. 10, thanks to being on the far side of a hill that blocked Providence. Whenever the station did come in, I often got to see Art Lake. I enjoyed his New England accent but more his warm personality. He seemed very out- going, friendly and affable. Providence was fortunate to have him for so many years. When I think of Ch. 10, Art Lake always comes to mind first. I think he always will. God bless and comfort you.

To the Lake Family & Channel 10,
My sincere sympathies to you on the passing of Art Lake. I’m also of the age of most of the people sending their condolences; I don’t remember a time in my life when Art Lake wasn’t “our” weatherman! He was truly a gentleman and made us feel as though he was talking directly to us!
May Jesus comfort you all at this sad time….....
To The Lake Family I am very sorry for your lost and Art will be sadly missed by everyone! I always watched Art Since I was very little at age 6. God Bless You All!

He will be sadly missed
Mrs Lake and Family,
My deepest condolences for the loss of Art.
Art will be missed. He never mispronounced a single “First Birthday” name. My son was one of the first “First Birthdays”. Our last name is mispronounced 99.9% of the time. Art said it correctly. He was an incredible announcer. I enjoyed watching him and Frank.
