NEWPORT, R.I.—A large kitchen fire forced the evacuation of the Hotel Viking in Newport on Monday.
Fire officials said the fire started in the kitchen’s fryolator and then spread into the hotel’s vents.
A worker activated the sprinklers over the fryer, but the fire started back up.
No one was injured.
Officials said the banquet kitchen, and rooms on the second and third floors were damaged.
