WARWICK, R.I.—The latest Kids Count report on the status of Rhode Island’s children has some promising trends and some worrisome trends.

The Factbook shows 2,484 children were participating in Head Start programs in October of last year.  That’s a decrease from 2,780 in October 2004.

The Factbook provides a statistical portrait of the status of Rhode Island’s children. The six core cities are Central Falls, Newport, Pawtucket, Providence, West Warwick and Woonsocket.

This year’s report indicates that only 40 percent of Rhode Island’s 6,200 children eligible for Head Start are actually enrolled.

The 2009 Rhode Island KIDS COUNT Factbook will be released in its entirety later Monday at a ceremony in Warwick.

Good news that the lead levels just keep getting lower and lower (way below a level which could cause harm) and all this without the help of Whitehouse and Lynch, all this without tearing apart 300,000 houses, all this without any change in an already effective program Kudos to the DOH; bronx cheers for the attornies general.
