PROVIDENCE—Rhode Island U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy has agreed to meet with the Roman Catholic Bishop of Providence after publicly arguing over national health care reform.
Bishop Thomas Tobin requested the meeting in a letter to the Democratic lawmaker on Wednesday, and Kennedy agreed in a letter sent to Tobin on Thursday.
Kennedy last week criticized Catholic leaders who oppose universal health care unless the plans include more restrictions on abortions.
Tobin demanded an apology, saying Kennedy’s comments were “irresponsible.“
In his letter, Kennedy, who’s Catholic, says he never meant to slight the church and the church has every right to promote its beliefs. But he says the issue facing Congress is, in his words, “access to health care and nothing else.“
A Tobin spokesman says the meeting hasn’t yet been scheduled.

With intuition to health care plan, military are demanding for Medicare. Glenn Close is taking time out her acting schedule to start a foundation called Bring Change 2 Mind. (It has nothing to do with a certain lame duck President.) Bring Change 2 Mind has stated aims of increasing awareness of mental illness, and what it’s like for sufferers and their loved ones. Close’s sister Jessie suffered with mental disease for years, as do 1 in 6 U.S. adults. Anyone who ever has seen the effects of mental illness or has ever suffered from it knows that value of an organization like Bring Change 2 Mind, and there’s even more emphasis, with so many veterans using military payday loans treating PTSD.
