The Rhode Island Department of Transportation will open the next phase of the Iway in time for the Thursday morning commute.

The change affects drivers coming from Massachusetts and the East Bay on Interstate 195 west.  Drivers heading for Interstate 95 south will cross the new Providence River Bridge.  They should stay left when coming off the Washington Bridge.

Drivers going to Interstate 95 north will stay on the old Interstate 195.  They should stay to the right when coming off the Washington Bridge.

The DOT says if you are in the wrong lane, do not try to back up or stop on the highway.  You should continue to an exit and turn around safely.
