I-Team: What to do with sex offenders
Sex Offenders
The debate continues over what to do with sex offenders who have been released from prison.
PAWTUCKET, R.I.—Pawtucket resident Melissa Nichols is beside herself.
Just two weeks ago she found out that a Level-2 sex offender is living a few doors down the street.
“Nobody in the neighborhood was notified,“ she said.
The sex offender’s name is Kristopher Maynard. He lives in a supervised home, but was convicted of molesting a 7-year-old girl.
Nichols has a 4-year-old daughter.
“It stinks because I feel like I can’t let my daughter play outside anymore,“ she said.
Pawtucket police said they are not mandated to notify individuals about Level 2 sex offenders, but they do notify organizations that deal with children.
Sex offenders living at the state’s Harrington Hall in Cranston have prompted state Sen. Hanna Gallo to introduce a bill to deal with the problem.
“My bill addresses the sexual predators not being able to go on to school grounds—from nursery school to high school, playgrounds, softball fields, and places where children congregate,“ Gallo said.
Gallo said lawyers have reviewed the bill and feel that it’s constitutional to restrict the activities of convicted sex offenders, something the current law does not allow.
Level-2 sex offenders can be found on the state’s sex offender Web site. If a person is a Level-3 offender, individual neighbors are notified.

If your neighbor was a sex offender youd realize what a ridiculous statement you just made dorabil. When your neighbor is a level II or III sex offender your kids can be in full view of them throughout the day , in the backyard when you barbecue, or just prevent you from wanting to take them down the street in a wagon.
It can be like being prisoner in your own home.
That is much different than if they lived out of state and took the bus etc.
They are protected and we are not in RI.
Ive found on these posts also that there are many RI ‘molester-huggers’ that also stick up for them like you.
This is no surprise - 11 child pornographers were arrested just this month in RI. It is the capital of the country for this trash.
Check this article- arrested this month from SKingstown, Exeter, Cranston, Woonsocket, Warwick, Glocester http://www.projo.com/news/content/CHILD_PORN_RING_05-13-09_6BEBTKB_v46.3c269fb.html
With transportation and communication what it is today, it doesn’t matter where sex offenders live as they can easily transport themselves across the state in a matter of minutes. Parents must be the guardians of their children. The parents are the line of defense for children against predators of any kind.
RI is becoming top in the nation for this sort of thing.

Fast becoming the country’s garbage can.
There are over 60 offenders in Cranston alone, and over 40 in Providence.
I have to agree with what hazard says. People should be notified. They should have more rights then the sex offender. I know they served their time but I don’t believe they are cured. It will be just a matter of time. I would not want them in my neighborhood. We have people living in tent cities let them move into the homes that the sex offenders are in. Let the sex offenders live in the tents surronded by very high fences.
I beleive sex offenders have a disease, a disease they cannot control. It seems to me that they always must re offend no matter what the consequences. I beleive it is the states obligation to protect our families from these disgusting lowlifes. If they dont what are we to do when we find them hurting someone we love? would you wait to call the cops? or would you beat them into the next life?I think you are more likely to re-hab a heroin addict than a sex offender, it seems as some kind of mental illness that reality cant grasp. They are a menace to society and should be dealt with as such. It really makes me sick when i hear about one getting released ,only to poison another life.Often these victims must deal with lifelong scars and thats just not fair.
