PAWTUCKET, R.I.—A man accused of invading a home in Rehoboth and leading police on a chase into Pawtucket was arraigned Monday on charges in Rhode Island.

John Keough did not enter a plea in Providence District Court during his arraignment on a variety of charges, including reckless driving, eluding police, possession of a stolen car and a firearm without a license and being a fugitive from justice.

The Rhode Island judge set Keough’s bail at $25,000 personal recognizance, but ordered him held because of the charges in Massachusetts. Keough was returned to Rehoboth on Monday afternoon and will likely be arraigned Tuesday in Massachusetts on charges of home invasion and first-degree robbery.

Authorities said the 27-year-old Malden, Mass., man broke into a School Street home on Friday and tied up a woman who lived there.  Police said Keough stole the woman’s car and led police on a chase into Pawtucket’s Slater Memorial Park.

Police said Keough crashed the car, ran into a river and threatened to shoot himself. He was convinced to surrender after a more than two-hour standoff.

“We’ve been working on it around the clock through the weekend. We are looking into every single detail involved in this case so we can identify how that home was singled out and selected, and to determine if there was anyone else involved or not,“ Rehoboth Police Chief Stephen Enos told NBC 10.

The homeowner freed herself. She was not hurt.

Police have not released her name.

NBC 10’s Mario Hilario contributed to this report.

A lot of wasted time on the police part. They should have let him shot himself.
