Gas prices drop for third consecutive week

PROVIDENCE - Gas prices in Rhode Island have dropped for the third straight week.

AAA Southern New England says in its weekly survey Monday that self-serve regular unleaded is averaging $2.66 a gallon, or a one-cent decrease from last week.

The price is also two cents above the national average and 74 cents higher than it was a year ago at this time.

Prices have now dropped four cents overall in the last three weeks.

Gas prices in Massachusetts are unchanged from a week ago but well above the same week last year.
The weekly survey by AAA Southern New England finds self-serve regular averaging $2.61 per gallon, the same as last week.

Massachusetts is 3 cents below the national average of $2.64 per gallon. At this time a year ago, self-serve regular in the Bay State was selling for an average price of $1.91 per gallon, 70 cents below the current price.
