Fallen Marine from Mass. laid to rest

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass.—A Marine helicopter pilot from Massachusetts who made the ultimate sacrifice was laid to rest.

A funeral service for Capt. Kyle Van De Giesen was held at St. Mary’s Church in North Attleborough on Friday morning. It was followed by a procession through town and burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

A candlelight vigil for Van De Giesen was held Thursday night at the football field where the former quarterback led the local high school football team to many victories.

Van De Giesen died Oct. 26 in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

He leaves behind his pregnant wife and an 18-month-old daughter.
