BRISTOL, R.I. – Dr. Doolittle could talk to the animals.

This weekend you can walk for the animals.

The first annual memorial Russo 5K “Run for the Animals” and family walk will take place at Colt State Park in Bristol on Sunday, October 11, 2009.

The 5K race takes place in memory of Mike Russo, who was killed by a hit and run driver in August of 2008.

Russo was an animal lover, which is why the proceeds from the event will go to the Rhode Island SPCA.

The 5K begins at the waterfront area of the park, with registration beginning at 9 a.m.

The registration fee is $25 on the day of the race.

For more information, you can visit the Russo 5K website.

He was the best son ever.  He had such a big heart and loved all animals.  He would be so proud of this race and all of the funds helping the animals.  Love you Mikey!  Love Mom

No, the driver was never found.  There is still a $12,000 reward for information.
