GROTON, Conn. (AP) - The Electric Boat shipyard in Groton could be getting a significant business boost under President Obama’s budget proposal.
The package released Thursday boosts the funding for the Ohio-class submarine replacement program and supports the contract for Virginia-class submarine production between the Navy and EB.
About $495 million could be allocated for the program to design and build the next-generation ballistic-missile submarines, which will replace the current fleet of Ohio-class submarines.
The budget also proposes $4.2 billion for the Virginia-class program and supports starting production of two submarines a year in 2011.
