PROVIDENCE—Rhode Island authorities investigating organized crime have arrested 30 people, including a man convicted in the 1973 shooting death of a Boston police detective.

The Rhode Island State Police said Tuesday the 30 suspects were arrested during morning raids and face charges including racketeering, extortion, drug dealing and illegal firearms.

The arrests are part of a continuing state police probe into organized crime. About two dozen people were arrested in November in the same investigation.

Among those arrested Tuesday is 53-year-old Terrell Walker, of Boston, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 1980 for the shooting death of Detective John Schroeder. He was sentenced to 18 to 20 years in prison and later released.

Authorities say Walker was caught trying to arrange for a cocaine delivery and was picked up by Massachusetts State Police.

It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer.
