PROVIDENCE—People who’d like to send holiday gifts to troops serving overseas are being asked to drop off donations of snacks, DVDs, toiletries and other items for Operation Holiday Cheer.

Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts and Maj. Gen. Robert Bray of the Rhode island National Guard are asking people to bring their donations on Saturday to the North Main Street Armory, at 1051 North Main St. in Providence from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The program sends care packages to Rhode Island troops.

Bray and Roberts suggest that people can donate a variety of items, including baseball gloves, sunglasses, headlamps with head bands for reading at night, hand sanitizer and trail mix.
