Cranston pool to open for summer

CRANSTON, R.I.—A Cranston public pool that had been in danger of closing is instead opening for the summer.

Cranston officials had warned that the outdoor Budlong Pool might have to stay closed this summer because of the city’s budget problems. But the pool is scheduled to open Friday and remain in use for eight weeks, through most of August.

The city raised user fees for nonresidents, cut back the pool hours and got help from private donors.

Mayor Allan Fung told The Providence Journal that he was pleased the pool can reopen and says it’s important for the community.
