CRANSTON, R.I.—Mayor Allan Fung on Monday named Marco Palombo the city’s new chief of police.

Palombo is a lifelong resident of Cranston and a 22-year veteran of the department.

Fung said Palombo shares his vision for the city, and more importantly understands the city.

Palombo will replace Stephen McGrath who retired in May.

The new chief still needs to be confirmed by the city council.

And with that short announcement, and assuming confirmation from the City Counsel, Chief (appointee) Palombo transforms from “one of the guys” to “evil Chief” by the union “brethren”.  How long before the union doesn’t get what it wants Chief Palombo feels the heat of the all too common “no confidence vote”.

Best of luck Chief (appointee) Palombo.
